Make it Monday - The Baking Boy

Calum (10) has been very keen to do lots of baking these last few weeks. Not just me making all the things he likes, but him learning how to bake them himself.
Last week we made some wheat and dairy free gingerbread using our trusty old recipe - and also one of the first recipes I shared on the blog, which you can find here.

He shared this photo with his friends on Instagram along with the caption 'had fun learning to make gingerbread with my mum today.' How sweet is that?

His favourite thing to bake is cupcakes, both the vanilla and the chocolate type. He has the recipe memorised and the only thing he needs help with is cracking the eggs in, as touching raw eggs will cause his hands to break out in hives.

As well as baking the cupcakes, he also takes great pride in decorating them nicely too.

And he very kindly lets Alasdair help lick the icing spoons too!

Look what an amazing job he does of the decor!

They taste as good as they look too.

  3. That is so exciting that your little guy likes to help in the kitchen. I have been teaching my oldest son the basics of cooking for quite some time and now my littlest guy wants to help any chance he can get. Its a great skill to have these days! They of course love to lick anything sweet from the mixing bowl!
It's been extremely hot here the last several days and this humidity has been a bit on the high side, Colorado isn't known for high humidity, so it's been a wee challenging!
I hope you have a great week!
    Blessing,
    Amy

  4. He does a great job on those cupcakes. He could probably give lessons. We taught our boys to cook just like the girls, and to this day, they love to cook, and are wonderful cooks. I used to let them pick something out of the cookbook to make for dinner each week, and then we would shop for the ingredients. They loved that. Glad to see that Alasdair got his cast off.
    Love and Blessings,
    Pam
